Ode To A Sock Monkey Hat
Joyful, Joyful, I adore you, little Monkey Hat of mine;
My heart unfolds in grateful comfort, shielded from the sun above.
Melt the clouds and wind and coldness, drive the chill of frost away,
Giver of unmeasured gladness, keep me warm while I go run!
Other runners are so jealous, earth and heaven my head can’t touch,
Wind and rain my head is safe from, Monkey Hat I give you praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, off country,
Running, birds and deer that I see, I rejoice my head is warm.
Thou are knitted and so soft, ever sitting on my head,
Now Walgreen’s hats are all sold out, all because I bought the rest!
Thou are Runners, cold and weary, all who want a Monkey Hat;
Runners may all love each other but you can’t have my Monkey Hat.
Mortals join in happy running when the morning stars do shine;
It’s MY hat and you can’t have one, brother love…but not my hat.
Ever running, march you onward, victors running without hats,
Joyful I run ever Sunward in the triumph it’s MY hat!!!
