Run. Dog. Cat. Cat. Me.

Everything you need to know about running and life and any other random crap I find bouncing through my mind like a ping pong ball. And always be sure your shoes are happy.

Always be a Unicorn.

It’s 27 degrees with a feel like temp of 23.  It could be worse, I could live in upstate New York or Canadia or someplace.  Someday I’m going to be a Canadian.  Right now, however, I’m busy being a Unicorn.

And I am reveling in the luxury of dreading a run.  “Oh, no!  It’s COLD!  I don’t want to run in the cold!”  hahahahahaha

I’m – of course – having a cup of coffee and dorking around online, FB, messaging.  Becky popped up: 9am, St. P’s, 6 miles.

YEP!  I’m there!  I haven’t run much this week so I will be interested in seeing how the legs shake out.  I have been more tired than usual this week but that’s the only aftermath of the half, so I could not ask for anything more.

You can’t be a Unicorn if you don’t put in the time, however you are able.

And I don’t think you can be a Unicorn without friends to pull you along. I’m blessed with the best.

How about you?

  1. I am reluctantly becoming Canadian and 23 actual Fahrenheit degrees would mean the opportunity for a comparatively balmy jaunt, unless you factor in the windchill. Love your blog!! I am in need of running friends like the crazies that are out here even at -23. Till then, I look more like your rhino friend there.

    • Oh, ouch! Coldest I’ve run in was 13, and it was a sunny day so that wasn’t even bad. I did a 50k in 18 degrees and four inches of fresh snow – it was beautiful!
What part of Canada? Are there any running clubs in your area?
Yes, VERY blessed with all my crazy running friends!

  2. Haha I was in central new york for a few years and those cold runs were so difficult! It took me more time to convince myself to go running than it did to actually do the running so I moved to LA 🙂

    • Love it! I grew up in Arizona – moving to the mid-south was a huge shock to me. First, the humidity (OMG) and second that the winters were so much colder. I do like having seasons, however, and we don’t usually have a real long cold spell, it will warm up for a few days and drop again. Knowing a friend was waiting to meet me in the parking lot did help!
Best of luck in your new home!

  3. You have given so many women the vision of their Inner Unicorn with what you do with WRWM. Including me. For that, I thank you. 🙂

  4. I hope you had a good run in the balmy 23-degree temps! I’m wondering if you are competitive or social, since you took off after seeing that Becky was out…Went out for 2.5 miles a little while ago, since our bike trail is presently snow-free. It was 12 degrees, and my face hurt!!! Maya’s furry face went unscathed.

    • It was pretty chilly at first, windy and cloudy but then we turned with the wind and the sun came out a bit. Never really warmed up, tho. I ran with Becky B and her hubs. I am both competitive and social in different settings. A few times I’ve placed in my age group but that hasn’t happened for quite a while now. I’d like to get trained back up if nothing in my body blows up again. And I am totally aiming for a marathon, chomping the bit for one.

  5. Glad you are getting out again! (sighs…wearily) I’ve sworn off running under 32°…which pretty much rules out January and February in NEOhio….
